The salaries of the Chancellor, Chief Justice, every Justice of Appeal and every Puisne Judge have been increased as at December 14, 2007, through an Order by Minister of Finance Dr Ashni Singh which he made under the Constitutional Offices (Remuneration of Holders) Act.
In making the Order on January 11, 2008, the Minister amended the Schedule to the Act by increasing the annual rates of salary applicable as at December 14, 2008.
The annual salary for the Chancellor has been moved to $2,400,000; the Chief Justice’s to $2,400,000; every Justice of Appeal $2,400,000 and every Puisne Judge $1,200,000.
In like manner, the Minister made an Order under the Ministers, Members of the National Assembly and Special Officer (Emoluments) Act for the increase of the salaries for the Government and Opposition Chief Whips to $1,440,000 per annum from October 1, 2006 and to $1,569,600 per annum from January 1, 2007.
