Internet café customers robbed by gunman

A gunman walked into the `Talk is Cheap’ Internet café at Ozama Street, North Ruimveldt on Wednesday night and later escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash, cell phones and jewellery.

Reports are that that around 9:25 pm a female manager and three customers were inside the café when a man entered and within seconds he pulled out a gun and demanded that the persons present hand over the valuables they had in their possession.

According to the police, Leslyn Hamilton who was in charge of the business and the customers Velsha Easton, Christopher Belle and Victor Harinandan were in the café when the armed man entered and held them up. He ordered them to lie on the floor and proceeded to take away an undisclosed sum of cash, a quantity of jewellery and three cell phones from the victims.

Hamilton was struck about the body with the firearm during the robbery and was treated at the Georgetown Hospital.

The man fled the scene on foot, according to reports reaching Stabroek News.

Up to press time the man had not been apprehended but police are continuing their investigations.
