Grove fire leaves five homeless

A fire of unknown origin swept through a Grove, East Bank Demerara house last night leaving five persons homeless and counting their losses.

No one was said to be in the 110 First Street, Grove building, which has no electricity supply, at the time of the incident, which occurred at around 8pm. Esther Gordon along with her children Vilanda, Lawrence, Devon Harry and Adrian Harry had resided there.

The house is said to be owned by another woman, who lives overseas. Since no one was at home, the family was unable to save anything.  Gordon, a security guard, said that the family had lived there for about  eight to nine years.

The Fire Service was on the scene when this newspaper arrived but many persons criticized it for not being able to save the house. The firemen, were, however, ensuring that the fire was put out. Investigations are continuing.
