Man with a mission: Optician Don Gomes was captured by the roving lens of Stabroek News photographer Jules Gibson yesterday, cleaning the area outside The Palms Geriatric Home on Brickdam yesterday. Gomes has undertaken to clean the Brickdam Police Station lockups and that project, he said, will get underway as soon as maintenance work on the sewerage system at the station, which is critical, is completed.

Where are the other (resident ) concerned Guyanese. Why is no one assisting this man. And why does he have to do work that should rightfully be done by the M&TC and the central government? Why do they not get off their behinds and do what they have been elected, and are being paid to do?
What a bloody shame.
Seems more like a photo-op.
There might well have been others around but declined to be photographed.
you go mr.gomes, leadership by example, hope other people take note, and what comes to mind is voluntary community service, maybe this is a start, because foreigners dont blame the govt for the insanitary appearance of a country, they blame the people.
Mr. Gomes, I think Guyana has a National Award Ceremony each year. I would like to nominate you for any award given for work done for the betterment of humanity. I wish everyone can take a page out of your book. Thank you.
