The people want answers quickly

Dear Editor,

After more than two years of the army’s presence in Buxton, criminal elements continue to strive, organise and move freely in and out of Buxton. There are numerous allegations that criminal elements were seen with guns in their hands and in the company of some elements of the security forces in Buxton. It is common knowledge that a well organized training programme for criminals is being conducted. This is manifested in the tactics employed by the criminals. Tactically and in weaponry they are well ahead of the armed forces.

The massacre of innocent people in the sanctity of their homes goes far beyond comprehension. I have seen and heard a lot of idle talkers on NCN TV, none of whom has really discussed the type of cohesive and comprehensive action needed to capture and bring to justice in the shortest period of time all those who are responsible for the mayhem. Failure to do this will witness a number of other criminal groups mushrooming in other parts of the city and country.

On sensitive issues of a security nature, the head of the army and other such persons should never make public the plans they have and the photograph of a soldier in a daily newspaper posing with three guns.

The President should welcome and accept the help offered by the diplomatic community and plan the way in which he will address the current situation.

The people need answers and they need them quickly. This massacre signals the beginning of an insurgency for which the perpetrators are well prepared, they are well organized and it was witnessed before that the criminal elements are forewarned of any move that the security forces have contemplated and use women and children as human shields.

Failure now to deal condignly with the situation on the East Coast could very well result in a situation comparable to Gaza and Palestine.

Yours faithfully,

Julian Singh
