Pollsters were not named

Dear Editor,
Mr Vishnu Bisram in his usual sit-on-the-fence style in a letter captioned ‘Polls show Republicans have a good chance of holding on to the White House’ (SN, 1.6.08) states, “according to an average of the latest polls, about 60% of Americans prefer the Democrats to control the House and the Senate…”
Without naming who conducted the polls, Bisram gives the impression as though his ‘polling’ entity was part of that process. After all, he’s a ‘pollster.’

Finally, Mr Editor, Bisram (as you know) is a small-scale pollster who operates as chief cook, and bottle-washer for some entity known as NACTA.

Yet in the interest of openness and the respect for democratic principles your newspaper has not questioned the validity of this so-called NACTA.

How then do you expect people to take Mr Bisram’s polls seriously?
Yours faithfully,
Mark Benschop
