I refer to the letter captioned ‘Women do respect themselves’ (SN June 27). The writer of the said letter was replying to my most recent letter, ‘Women don’t respect themselves’ (SN June 25).

The writer stated that she does not dress in a sexualised manner nor does she wear revealing clothing. However, if a survey of one hundred women was conducted to obtain their assessment of how they dress, I am confident that they would give the same answer (they don’t) as the writer of the letter.

The problem in many cases is the standard by which we measure ourselves. The standard should not be our opinions or what we think or even what someone else has said, but rather, the Word of God – the Holy Bible. The hearts of men/women are deceitfully and desperately wicked. Therefore, if I were to judge myself by my standards, I would deceive myself and the same applies to everyone.

The writer also asked, how is it that Muslim women are being raped in Islamic countries when these women wear traditional clothing. Note that I said dressing is one contributory factor to rape – the keyword being one, which within that context implies that there are many other factors that contribute to rape. I encourage all readers to read carefully and take what is being said within its proper context. Let us not be so hasty to respond without a proper understanding of what is being written.
