I recall years ago I submitted a report to the Mirror newspaper in relation to a police attack on a group of sugar workers, among whom was a pregnant mom. I remember being questioned on the fairness of the report by the Mirror on the ground that I had deliberately omitted the action of the sugar workers that led to the response from the police, though unjustified in that context. I learnt a lesson in professional journalism as I stood corrected.

Later, I was to learn more, as Dr Cheddi Jagan indicated that the Mirror must not promote “mud-slinging,” a term which speaks for itself. Again, I saw the importance of rising above my personal emotions to write objectively without the serpent’s poison.

I think of Gordon Moseley and I wonder if this journalist respects his profession and moreso the office of the President of Guyana, if not his person.

He should never have stood accused.
