Out of lane driving

Dear Editor,

I cannot recall having read or seen any campaign by the Traffic Police towards monitoring lane driving and I do apologize if this was indeed done.

My reason for raising this matter is that I commute daily on the East Bank 2-lane road and observe the dangerous manner of motorists overtaking in both inner and outer lanes. First, Mini Buses especially are using the cyclist/motor lane to pass you in the inner lane and then they caress you at a 60 degree angle to join the lane. Second there are those motorists who overtake you within the said inner lane of driving. And the same can be said for the outer lane which is a free for all.

I am conscious of the Traffic Dept’s policing of overcrowded mini-buses, hire cars and speeding but this improper use of lane driving can lead to a disaster one day and I call upon the authorities to use unmarked vehicles to stamp out this practice as soon as possible.

Yours faithfully,
