Dear Editor,
I once wrote a letter to the editor of Stabroek News complaining of something or the other as usual. About 10 am on the day of publication Mr de Caires called me and asked whether I was sure of my information. Apparently someone must have called him. How humane, how caring and how humble! Really, it felt like President Clinton calling.
I assured him that it was, and he encouraged me to continue to voice my opinion or disgust as I saw fit for it lent authenticity to the picture. I was smiling joyfully to myself for the rest of that day and I remember him now with a sad little smile.
