Dear Editor,

Now that the rainy season is here again, the plastic containers that were dumped on the roadways, thrown in the drains and trenches, pitched from passing vehicles, are now floating and blocking our drains and canals in the city and countryside.

It looks really ugly to see piles and piles of plastic containers littering our surroundings; after all, plastic doesn’t rot and will continue to be an eyesore.

How do the President and his ministers feel when they visit other countries and see the clean streets, roads and canals, and compare that with Georgetown which is littered with all manner of garbage?

With no recycling plant here, the manufacture of soft drinks and bottled water locally, plus the importation of tons of foodstuff and aerated drinks in plastic containers, we are in for a massive plastic invasion that will surely make Guyana be scorned.
