Sequin wins Rising Sun Turf meet

The Rising Sun Turf Club came alive last weekend when Sequin turned back the challenge of the other horses in “C” Class to walk away with $300,000 first prize in one of the most successful horse race meets in recent times

Speaking to Stabroek Sport, president of the club, Inshan Habibulla, said that the races were run off in orderly fashion without any problems.

He added that there were no hindrances, accidents or wrong decisions and the mammoth crowd that turned up were treated to an exceptional day of horse raceing.

Habibulla added that the eight races saw excellent competition and all the winning horses were rewarded.

The meet organized by the True Friendship Organization lived up to its name and the winners were promptly rewarded as soon as the results were verified and ratified by the team of judges.

In the feature race of the day, the Jumbo Jet stable was all cheers and so was too  their owner Nazarudeen Mohammed whose horse Sequins took top honours.

Customs Racing Services, which had numerous entries, were proud of The Gap which took away the $200,000 first prize in the three-year-old category.

Also in winners’ row for the stable was Pixie Pier who took home the $150,000 at stake for two-year-olds.

Habibulla said the next event will take place on November 2 and this will be followed by the December 4 meet.

Meanwhile, the one day Rodeo meet scheduled for October 26 will go ahead as planned and sponsors have already given their commitment, Habibulla said adding that an announcement will be made soon.
