The management of Kennard Memorial Turf Club (KMTC) need not worry about the prize money for their feature race on Boxing Day.

Beverage giants, Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL), through its El Dorado brand rum, will take care of that sponsorship.

At a simple presentation ceremony held in the office of KMTC president and retired chief justice Cecil Kennard, Wines and Spirits manager of DDL Maria Munroe, stated that her company would continue its  long lasting relationship with the club in presenting a cheque for $600,000.

“This is the last meet of the year on the horse racing calendar and DDL, through its El Dorado brand of rums, is pleased to be associated with this venture.

“We have lots of plans for sports next year, and I can assure you that we will continue to partner with the KMTC.”

Munroe added:” We will also continue to support the Guyana Cricket Board with the inter county tournament along with some new developments in the world of sports, so rest assured, DDL and El Dorado will be on board with the KMTC next year.”

Kennard took the time to thank the sponsor for their sterling contribution which has been an ongoing relationship dating back to the past 30 years.

“I must say thanks once again to El Dorado for their contribution. This has been a relationship between DDL and KMTC which has been ongoing for the past 30 years and I am very grateful as they have been the main sponsor of our annual end of year meeting, which is being held on Boxing Day.”

Over 10 horses amongst whom are Little Pannie, Sequin, Isle be True, Sir Balajee, Laura Lee in Flight, along with Annie’s Playmate and Irish Gel who are both American bred horses, are expected to grace the course with their presence for this meet, which has a first prize of $350,000 awaiting the winner.

Kennard also stated that a packed house was expected, as the Berbice Harbour Bridge was expected to be in operation from Monday.

It means that racing enthusiasts can have an ease with regards to transportation for crossing the Berbice River.
