Woman struck down by army vehicle

A woman is in a critical condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital after being struck down by a Guyana Defence Force (GDF) vehicle while crossing the McDoom, East Bank Demerara public road last evening.

The woman, who remained unidentified up to last night, but is said to be an employee of Pritipaul Singh Investments, was crossing the highway, close to the Service Station, to get to the eastern side, when she was hit by the car, DFD 1482.

She was in an unconscious state last night and hospital sources said that her condition was critical. She sustained head injuries and bruises about the body. After she was hit by the GDF vehicle, which was heading in a southerly direction, the car stopped and transported her to the hospital.

The vehicle was later taken to the Brickdam Police Station by police while the driver was sent to Camp Ayanganna and is reportedly under arrest.
