A 22-year-old data entry clerk, who allegedly embezzled over $5.3M from Banks DIH, was granted bail yesterday when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Andre Hunte of Lot 165 Fourth Street, Alexander Village, pleaded not guilty to five charges of embezzlement.

It is alleged that between February 4 and 25 this year, Hunte, being employed as a clerk or servant at Banks DIH, fraudulently embezzled over $5.3M in cash which he had received on behalf of the company.

However, Hunte’s lawyer, Roger Yearwood applied for bail for him on the grounds that he did not have a criminal record and that if granted bail he would return to court.

He said that Hunte was an unfortunate member of a group of data entry clerks at Banks DIH accused of the offence.

The prosecution made no objection to the bail application and it was subsequently granted in the sum of $500, 000.

Hunte will return to court on May 25.
