Minister in the Ministry of Education, Dr Desrey Fox passed away at the Georgetown Public Hospital just after 3 this morning.

The Minister had sustained back and head injuries in a horrific three-vehicle smash-up on Tuesday evening just outside of Camp Ayanganna on Thomas Lands.

The Minister had been in the High Dependency Unit since and hospital sources said her condition worsened this morning and she passed away.

Her grandchild was also injured in the accident and is in the paediatric ward.

Minister Fox, 54, entered the Jagdeo administration following the 2006 elections.

She was born at Waramadong Village, Upper Mazaruni District. According to the Office of the President website she was awarded a Ph.D in Linguistics from Rice University. She was also the holder of a MA in Linguistics from Rice University, a MA in Environmental Anthropology from the University of Kent at Canterbury and a B.Sc in Sociology from the University of Guyana.

She leaves to mourn three sons and other relatives. (See more later.)
