Dear Editor,

In reaction to the move by the Barbadian government to crack down on undocumented workers who include many Guyanese, President Bharrat Jagdeo in a press briefing last month indicated that he could be of no help to the Guyanese. However, he stated that he would be seeking to engage the opposition to discuss the matter and, possibly, find a solution. It is important to know if this meeting took place, and what the outcome was.

Secondly, is the Caricom Secretariat involved in facilitating any meetings between the Barbadian government and the governments of those Caricom states whose nationals will be affected by the new immigration policy?

Finally, can the Guyana government advise the nation on how its immigration or foreign policy will protect against the possible influx of illegal immigrants coming through the recently constructed bridge to Brazil.

I empathise with those Guyanese and other Caribbean nationals affected by the Barbados June 1 deadline.
