Comrade Ranji was a simple man

Dear Editor,

It was with much sadness that I learnt of the death of Comrade Ranji Chandisingh.

As Secretary to the Board of Governors of the Kuru Kuru Cooperative College during the eighties, I was fortunate to interface several times with this remarkable gentleman at his Barima Avenue Office in his capacity as Minister of Higher Education.

Comrade Ranji was a simple man, not given to extravagance of any nature, always sartorially elegant and with professional deportment.

I can recall when I mentioned to him that I was proceeding on a trade union scholarship to the USSR in 1981, his eyes brightened, he shook my hand in congratulatory fashion and actually gave me some tips about life in that country. He further urged me to learn as much as possible so that on my return I could use the knowledge gained to further national development. On that day we chatted for half an hour. Surely, he was a humble and sincere human being and I shall miss him.

To his sorrowing wife, son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren, I extend heartfelt sympathy to them on their loss. May God grant him eternal rest and may his soul rest in peace.

Yours faithfully,
Clement Johnson
