Story with a difference

Dear Editor,
There is additional joy when journalists highlight challenging stories or bring us stories with a difference. The ones that showcase dedication and determination in the academic field deserve acknowledgement.

I was in awe reading Shabna Ullah’s SN report a couple of days ago on the achievements of Margaret Eastman, who is ranked in the top ten of Region 10. The teachers of the Number 29 Primary School and Kimbia Mission Academy in Region 10 should be extremely proud of themselves for the guidance and support they rendered.

I often wish that the business community would pay some attention and be a little more pro-active in the case of those who face challenges and wish to continue with studies.

The efforts of Myrna Hercules, Margaret’s mother, who used to rip open old school uniforms in order to practise sewing so she could save on expenses, did not go in vain. I believe that someone of her stature should be honoured at the ministry’s awards ceremony some time in October.
Yours faithfully,
T Pemberton
