Pele and Alpha recorded the final two victories of the first round in the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) Cellink Plus Premier League when they defeated their opponents at the Tucville Playfield on Sunday.

Eight mighty goals sank the hapless Flamingo squad who was not able to score when they opposed Pele in the curtain raiser of the evening while Alpha ‘The Hammer’ United got past the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) 2-1 in the feature battle.

Marvin Joseph led the way for Pele with a helmet-trick while being supported by Okene Fraser who recorded a double.

Joseph scored in the 26th and 37th minutes before Travis Grant found the back of the net in the 40th to conclude the first half with a three-goal lead.

The second half resumed with Joseph being the first to score as he recorded his hat-trick in the 54th minute then his helmet-trick five minutes later establishing an unassailable lead.

Fraser then stole the show when he scored in the 75th minute and followed it up with a next goal in the 86th while Gerald Whittington squeezed one in two minutes into injury and stoppages time.

Alpha were able to score early in their encounter against GDF, Edison Gomes pierced the uprights in the fourth minute to give the three time defending champions the lead.

Howard Lowe scored the second and final goal for Alpha in the 32nd minute which kept them in the lead even when GDF successfully struck in the 46th minute from a Damon Agard strike.
