- driver aims “to be very competitive”

Kevin Jeffery’s Mitsubishi Evolution was the last car from team Guyana to leave for Barbados where they will take on the rest of the Caribbean in round two of the Caribbean Motor Racing Championship at the Bushy Park Circuit on Sunday, August 30.

Speaking with Stabroek Sport yesterday while shipping his machine off at the John Fernandes wharf, Jeffery said that they came from the South Dakota Circuit straight to the shipping docks because they were doing their final run locally to make sure that the car was in good racing order.

Since the last meet which was the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) National Race of Champions, they had many sleepless nights rectifying some problems in time for the Barbados run.

“I think we are like 85% there right now because as you would know, we didn’t do so well at the last meet so we went back to the drawing board and did a lot of work on the car. Before we came here we were at the track doing our final run and I think we have some more work to do,” Jeffery said.

Despite all these setbacks, Jeffery said that he is going to be very competitive but was reluctant to make any predictions. However, he did say that it will be an exciting meet in the land of the flying fish.

“Even though we are at about 85%, I don’t want to say what I would do or anything because I’m going out there to do my best. Myself along with my crew which is headed by Brian Ten-Pow will arrive in Barbados next week Wednesday and they will continue the work on the car there but I’m looking forward for a good run over there,” the racer noted. Jeffery would be racing in the group four category where he will take on fellow Guyanese Andrew King, Jamaica’s David Summerbell and reigning Caribbean champion Stuart Maloney of Barbados for a shot at the prestigious title even though he did not take part in the first round which was held in the land of wood and water earlier in the year.
