A Guyanese woman accused of wounding a man in Barbados had the charge against her dismissed on Tuesday, but was subsequently handed over to immigration authorities.

According to a Barbados Nation report Donna Patricia Gittens, 30, who was staying at Baxters Road, was led away by immigration officials after it was discovered in court that she had spent the last four months illegally in the island.
The woman appeared in the Bridgetown Traffic Court on Tuesday, where she was not required to plead to unlawfully wounding Avery McVain with intent on September 1, the report said.

McVain told the court that even though he had made a report to police and knew that Gittens had been charged, he was no longer willing to “carry on with the case”.

However, the Nation said, an immigration officer revealed that Gittens arrived in Barbados in February and was granted 30 days’ leave.

She applied for an extension and was allowed to stay until April. Since then there have been no more extensions.
Magistrate Christopher Birch dismissed the charge but handed Gittens over to immigration officials.

    Welcome Home.

    • Borapork , You live in Canada not Guyana , therefore it is President Jagdeo who should be saying “Welcome home ” to the illegal immigrants in Barbados . These people are increasing the crime rate in Barbados and their demand for housing has increased the rental rates for the working class . The government of Guyana should request that their undocumented citizens residing in Barbados , return to Guyana . Why should bajans wait until they commit crimes before they are sent back to their homeland , tell us why , Mr.President ?????

Rugged asks Wiggins where is the research? Rugged leaf thru Barbados newspapers for last ten years and you will find crime by Guyanse almost every day. The daily Nation whose editor is Guyanese is a good place to start. Jagdaoe mealy mouth statement on treatment of Mormons is pure rhetoric. He likes the r word. Like the rest of the world the Mormons believe Guyana is on life support and needs saving. Guyana is a welcoming country, it embraces illegal immigrants, why not let the Utah posse in?
