Policeman shot by bandit at Port Kaituma

Police ranks searching for bandits who committed a daring multi-million dollar robbery on a gold buyer at Port Kaituma, North West came under gunfire this afternoon resulting in detective constable Emrit Winter being wounded.

The rank who is attached to the Port Kaituma Police Station was air- dashed to the city and admitted to Georgetown Hospital also with a woman who was badly beaten during the robbery.

The woman, whose name is unknown at this time, is the wife of the gold buyer.

A release from the police at 6.20 pm said that three men armed with a hand gun stuck up and robbed the wife of a businessman at Public Road Port Kaituma, North West District of $9 million and a quantity of raw gold. The attack occurred at around 1.45 pm.

“An alarm was raised and the police responded.  Acting on information received two of the suspects were cornered in some bushes and they opened fire on the police resulting in Detective Corporal 16723 Winter sustaining a gunshot injury to his left hip”, the police said.  His condition is regarded as stable.
