Another miner dies following Barama River tree mishap

One of the three miners injured in Monday’s tree mishap at an upper Barama River location succumbed while being air-dashed to Georgetown this morning.

Michael Allen, 36, of Grant Adventure, Pomeroon River was pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Hospital around 1 pm today.

His brother Shawn sustained injuries to his foot while attempting to reach the spot where the mishap occurred. According to reports Shawn had hired a boat but while somewhere between Moruca and Port Kaituma, North West District around 8:30 pm last night the water craft struck a tree and capsized.

His left foot was sliced several times by the propeller blades.

Shawn who was transported to the city from Moruca with his brother is receiving treatment at the Georgetown Hospital while the two other injured men have been admitted to the Suddie Hospital in a serious condition.

A fourth miner identified only as Anand died at the scene of the mishap.
