Why would the government spend $37M on water cannon for demonstrators and the fire service does not have equipment?

Dear Editor,

What is really going on in this land of ours? We read an article in the press which reported that Minister Rohee is planning to buy $37M water cannon to disperse demonstrators. It is so shocking to know that the fire service does not have equipment to fight fires in Guyana, but the government can purchase water cannon that cost $37million in taxpayer dollars to disperse demonstrators. Don’t people have rights any more to speak out? If the government had a little interest in poor people and met their demands there would be no demonstrations taking place in the streets.

Shame on the Government of Guyana; it doesn’t have respect for the people.

In the past we had so many elections and a drastic step such as this was never taken. This is violence against the people of Guyana. Grassroots Women across Race is totally against violence in any form.

Why would the government want to be violent to its people?

By the way, where is the water coming from to go into the cannon?

Yours faithfully,
