Police should investigate beating by three-man gang on Essequibo Coast

Dear Editor,
I am fearful that my son, Arnold Gibson called ‘Rawle,’ 36, might succumb to injuries sustained from a beating by a three-member member gang last Thursday night in the fenced compound of a popular night spot called the ‘Hole’ at Good Hope, Essequibo Coast. The beating was done just for fun, with the other victim being speedboat sailor, Howard Stephen, 30.

Arnold was unconscious and was bleeding profusely from his mouth, ear and nose, with his face battered and swollen, and was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the Suddie Hospital. He had also suffered head injuries, and his left hand was swaying freely, indicating that the bone had been broken.  Stephen, however, was sitting in a wheelchair and was able to speak at the institution.

Stephen explained that ‘just like that’ the gang members, one of whom was called ‘Strongman’ pounced on him and Arnold, and started to beat them with a baseball bat. After receiving about 3 or 4 lashes, Stephen said he managed to run away leaving Arnold alone. The attack then continued on my son, who was dealt several kicks and cuffs about his body, rendering him helpless. On being informed of the incident, I found him in a crouching position at the Supenaam road end where scores of persons had gathered. Arnold was drenched in blood.

A report was made at the Aurora police station, and I requested that ranks from Police Headquarters be sent to investigate this matter, otherwise I am afraid that justice might not be done.

Yours faithfully,
Rudolph Gibson
