The GPL caterpillar engines at Bartica should be scrapped

Dear Editor,

We the citizens of Bartica have been experiencing regular blackouts. GPL recently brought to Bartica a 30-year-old, worn-out caterpillar engine. It cannot take the load; this engine trips out at peak times, or something breaks mechanically. The other caterpillar unit, nick-named ‘Smoking Joe’ usually trips out too under load. These engines are very old and need scrapping. Residents are fed up. Meat and other perishables spoil. [Ed note: This letter was written before the power station explosion]

The employees of the GPL Bartica power station are working very hard to cope with these old engines, but our big problem is, what is going to happen this Christmas? We residents would like GPL to look into this matter urgently. We know GPL could do better for us.

First Avenue is laden with stalls on the roadside. We do not know or trust them. It is also hard to  park your vehicle when shopping in First Avenue. Store-owners are complaining about this sudden flow of roadside stalls and the strong competition to stores. Where is the public convenience for these stallholders?

Yours faithfully,
