Guyana Fashion Weekend auditions to be held next month

The Guyana Fashion Weekend (GFW) committee has announced that auditions are to be held next month and the theme for this year continues along the ‘going green’ concept from two years ago.

The committee said models and designers should take note and await the release of the official dates. The show this year will also take on a ‘low carbon’ theme and designers are asked to also take note.

Designers are asked to walk with sketches or portfolio and two complete outfits, and according to the release designers will also have an opportunity to register with the Guyana Designers Association.

The GWF committee, which is headed by Sonia Noel, pointed to the breakout careers of designing alums of the show which include the Telford Sisters, Marcia De Santos, Sonola Forte and Andrew Harris among others.

GFW 2010 is slated for October this year and according to the release, activities will kick off with a few focused events geared towards celebrating Cancer Awareness.  The committee said it is working to launch GFW in North America this year and to raise the level of awareness of the event and of Guyanese fashion in the disapora.

Further, the committee also made mention of Sonia Noel’s other brainchild, Guyana Model Search, indicating that the televised episodes of the show will air from this weekend on the National Communications Network (NCN) 11 and HJTV 72.

Guyana Model Search, Designer’s Portfolio, Stylist competition and the Chef’s component of the show will all culminate on July 4 at Pegasus Hotel.
