Jalallodeen Baksh sworn in again as Region Five Vice Chairman

President Bharrat Jagdeo has reassigned Jalallodeen Baksh to the post of Vice Chairman of Region Five.

According to a Government Information Agency (GINA) press release Baksh was sworn in on Monday at the Office of the President before Minister of Local Government and Regional Development Kellawan Lall and Chairman of Region Five Harrinarine Baldeo.

Baksh was elected to the position of Vice Chairman for the first time after the elections of 1994 and demitted office after serving for a period of 10 years. He was asked to again assume the office following the resignation of his successor.

“I am coming into the job with some experience and I hope to do my best,” Baksh told reporters. He also noted that he was familiar with the operations of the Regional Democratic Council adding that, “We are an agency of the government, we have a budget and a works programme and we have to ensure that those are executed.”
