Suspect held in Industry $10M robbery

Police have arrested a suspect in the Industry kick-down-the-door, multi-million-dollar robbery and are actively pursuing several leads.

A senior police official told Stabroek News yesterday that it was acting on information that ranks arrested the suspect at an East Coast Demerara location.

Up to late yesterday afternoon, the suspect, who is known to Codwington John who was robbed of some $10 million in cash, gold and diamonds on Tuesday, was still in police custody.

The official also told this newspaper that there are a number of theories that the police are working on and that “fingers are being pointed all round”.

Reports are that around 02:30 hrs five masked gunmen stormed the bottom flat of a house at Lot 119 Sixth Street, Industry where John was staying.

John who owns a shop at Kamarang and also buys and sells gold had arrived in Industry the previous day.

The men kicked down the front door and on gaining entry to the house kicked down the door to the room, the businessman was sleeping it. John was immediately ordered to hand over the gold and the cash with he did after being gun butted.

The men then fled to a car which was parked on Fifth Street.

A young couple and their three-year-old son who were also in the house were not harmed.
