Man remanded over murder of Bartica woman

The accused in the murder of the  Bartica woman, Donna Lakeram was yesterday  remanded to prison after he appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octave-Hamilton at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

The allegation is that between August 23-24 at Seamang Creek, Middle Mazaruni River, Bevonon Hyder Khan murdered Lakeram.

The man was not required to plead to the indictable charge when it was read to him.

The matter will be called again at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court on September 8, 2011.

Lakeram’s body was found in Seamang, Issano on August 24, and police reports stated that the deceased and the suspect had been consuming alcohol when an argument ensued between them.

The woman died of strangulation and multi-trauma, according to the findings of the post-mortem examination which was conducted by pathologist, Dr. Nehaul Singh.
