Victim nabs gunman after $1.5M hold up

A gunman, who stole $1.5M in a robbery at Garden of Eden, East Bank Demerara on Friday evening, was caught by his victim after a car chase.

Police said at about 6:15pm, Raphael Bagot, 25, of Kuru Kuru, Soesdyke/Linden Highway, was in his parked car when he was attacked by the gunman, who took the cash from the vehicle and escaped in a waiting car.

A relative of Bagot, police said, came up shortly after and they gave chase behind the getaway vehicle, which bore licence plate number PLL 7395, and caught up with it at Second Street, Craig, also on the East Bank. They managed to apprehend the suspect while three other men who were in the vehicle escaped, according to police.

The suspect was handed over to the police who also impounded the car used by the robbers.

According to police, a man later reported to the Golden Grove Police Station and said that he had been attacked and robbed of the vehicle earlier. He was also arrested and along with the suspect is in police custody assisting with the investigations, police said.
