Navin Chandarpal back as presidential advisor

Approximately one year to the date he was sacked as advisor to the then President Bharat Jagdeo, veteran PPP member Navin Chandarpal was reinstated in the same capacity by President Donald Ramotar.

In January this year, the longstanding member of the PPP was fired and came under a scathing attack from Jagdeo, who accused him of frequenting “rum shops” and being guilty of non-performance in his advisory post.

Chandarpal rejected Jagdeo’s statements and accused him of engaging in gutter politics.

After he was removed from his post as presidential advisor, he was appointed principal of the Guyana Agricultural and General Workers Union’s (GAWU) labour college. In this capacity, he was once again criticized by Jagdeo, who stated that he contributed to the GAWU worker’s strike and vocal condemnations of the government by sugar workers.

The husband of Indra Chandarpal, head of the women’s arm of the PPP, the Women’s Progressive Organization, Chandarpal was not seen during the initial stages of the PPP/C’s campaign but subsequently emerged and was very vocal in his support of Ramotar.
