Bisram’s letter included only one set of findings

Dear Editor,

Vishnu Bisram claims he conducted a poll in late October 2011. Mr Bisram states the following issues were canvassed and questions were asked: (1) how people plan to vote in the November 28 elections; (2) the approval rating for outgoing President Bharrat Jagdeo; and (3) how people rate the performance of the ministers and the achievement of the ministries during the term of the administration. Mr Bisram had a letter published outlining his findings. The only issue he reports in his letter is the popular support for the parties. I have, time and time again, condemned Stabroek News and Kaieteur News for allowing Mr Bisram to engage in selective statistical manipulation. Mr Bisram conducts a poll on three issues yet he reports on one issue only. The other issues are equally important for the public, particularly given the ridiculous and reprehensible behaviour of President Bharrat Jagdeo on the campaign trail. To continue to allow Mr Bisram to engage in selective publication of his claimed statistical findings is degrading the fine name of this newspaper. At least Kaieteur News seems to have got the message and did not publish Mr Bisram’s letter.

Yours faithfully,
M Maxwell

Editor’s note
Mr Bisram did include the responses to the other two questions, but SN did not carry them.
