President Jagdeo deserves his pension benefits

Dear Editor,

The political opposition in Guyana is certainly very exhausted and frustrated due to their desperate search for issues with which to confront the PPP government. With such a stance, one therefore has to understand why David Granger is asking the nation not to look backwards. They have ransacked their tracts.

Now the opposition is raising the issue of the pension benefits for President Jagdeo. At least, this issue was debated and passed in the Parliament. And, the benefits are not assigned to Jagdeo per se, but to the holder of the post as a President of Guyana.

Even though President Desmond Hoyte rigged his way into power, he received a yearly clothing allowance of $900,000.

The presidential benefits now are certainly an infinitesimal amount as compared to the unaccounted monies of the PNC administration. The grant of such complimentary benefits is also evident to worthy performers in sport and entertainment, be they cricketers, boxers, stage performers, singers, etc.
Without going into detail I would say that as long as we are bestowed with a conscience, we will certainly conclude that Bharrat Jagdeo has served this country well, and has lifted this country to another level.

Yours faithfully,
Oswald Wray
