Dear Editor,
In this struggle to see a better Guyana shorn of corruption, cronyism, ethnic bias, extra-judicial killings and the infestation of a narco-economy, I have long examined our choices – even if it is with disappointment – and have never shied away from zooming in on a political movement that offers us a genuine opportunity to realise, together as a people, a better society.
Those of us who in the greater part of 19 years, have protested on the streets of our country, can no longer be hesitant about entrusting our confidence to a unique political party that stands before us with the key to open the doors of prosperity. I have been hesitant, as one of those humble servants in my 15 years of social and political activism, be it in the area of youth work or from the halls of the trade union, to cast my pearls of struggle and sacrifice to politicians who are unworthy. Those of us who have followed my contribution on the opinion pages of our nation’s newspapers and websites can testify to my consistency and strong commitment to calling a spade a spade, with no regard for whom it may tickle. I shall not change from that position.
Today, I submit that in weighing our political chances, the one which is most worthy to be entrusted with the key to unlock the door of change and prosperity is the Alliance for Change.
I implore every Guyanese to break the walls of racial voting, bring tumbling down the 28 and 19 years of the belief that we have always only two options. Options that have brought us the full circle of where we are at in 2011. We are now, like never before in the history of our nation, at a juncture where our struggles must be placed in the hands of guardians who can safely transport to our present generation and the ones to come, a society far removed from today’s travails.
I therefore endorse the Alliance for Change to form the new government come November,
28. I hope everyone in Region 10 and throughout Guyana joins me and gives hope a chance. Let only change for the better of all our people guide our stained fingers on that day.
