Shuffler re-elected as GVF President

President of the Guyana Volleyball Federation (GVF), Lennox Shuffler was re-elected to the post of GVF president following the body’s Annual General Meeting last Sunday at Berbice High School.

Speaking to Stabroek Sport yesterday, the returning president indicated that he was appreciative of the re-election and said that he was very eager to transfer his knowledge to the new executive elected.

Shuffler described the elected body that will  govern the GVF as an “energetic group.”

One of the first items on the GVF’s agenda for the new term, Shuffler explained, is the formulation of the federation’s yearly events calendar.

He disclosed that the GVF’s 2011 calendar of events will be prepared and finalized by “the first week in February.”

He revealed that he had indicated at Sunday’s AGM that he has received approval from the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) for the launching of a nationwide schools volleyball programme.

“I indicated at the AGM that we received an approval letter from the world body in response to a proposal for a nationwide schools volleyball programme that was submitted.”

According to Shuffler, this is another important item on the GVF agenda for the year. He stated that they will be looking to launch this programme as soon as possible after responding to FIVB’s letter of approval. In a previous interview, Shuffler had related that after a visit to the Volleyball World Congress, hosted by the International Volleyball Federation last September in Italy, it was pinpointed by the FIVB that assistance will be granted to countries such as Guyana whose volleyball standard is at Level One.

Shuffler said he welcomed the assistance to ‘Level One’ countries since it will aid the schools volleyball programme.

According to Shuffler, the assistance from the FIVB will be in the form of volleyballs, nets and volleyball accessories and will span a period of four years.

Another item on the GVF agenda, Shuffler disclosed, is the resuscitation of the Demerara Volleyball Association, with the same success as the recently revived Berbice Volleyball Association (BVA).

Shuffler was re-elected after a unanimous vote in his favour.

The other elected GVF officials are: Levi Nedd (Vice President), Gregory Rambarran (Secretary), Amanda Hermonstine (Assistant Secretary), Rawle Duke (Treasurer) and John Flores (Public Relations Officer).

Meanwhile, Andrea Farias, Nicholas Fraser, Dester Hoppy, Errol Chase and Zaheer Moakhan were appointed  committee members of the body.
