‘Nothing to Laugh About’ on this weekend

Maria Benschop appears to be on to something with her satirical sketches which are now popularly promoted under the tag line, ‘Nothing to Laugh About’.

Who knew that from the humble beginnings of a show people initially dismissed she would roll out a fourth instalment? ‘Nothing to Laugh About 4’ opened at the National Cultural Centre last night and runs this weekend, wrapping up tomorrow night.

Maria, who writes the majority of the sketches, has opened the new production to fresh writers and under new direction. Actor Linden ‘Jumbie’ Jones is directing the fourth instalment of the show and he told The Scene last week, “The production is gold!”

He said it tackles a range of new topics including his own debacle with the Guyana Police Force. He said he never publicly responded to the police after an apology was issued, but that his feelings are out in the open in the new production.

“It’s worth seeing, not just for personal stuff but because the whole show is full of really good material,” he added.

There are reports that the show has been sold out on all three nights, and Jones was adamant during the interview that there would be no held-over.
