Reports of unrest at Barbados jail

(Barbados Nation) There are reports of daily unrest among prisoners and a critical shortage of food at Her Majesty’s Prisons Dodds.

However, Superintendent of Prisons Lieutenant Colonel John Nurse denies there is any food shortage or that inmate fighting is out of control.

He admitted though that he was concerned about the growing population at Dodds, which is close to being full.

The SUNDAY SUN understands that the total population at the St Philip jail, which was built to accommodate 1 250, stood at 1 058 last month. This has reportedly led to a rationing of food in recent weeks, something which was said to be upsetting some inmates.
