Poetry at the Umana Yana next Tuesday

Next week Tuesday, interested persons can listen and learn about poetry at the Umana Yana as the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports celebrate World Poetry Day.

A statement from the Ministry said that the event seeks to promote the reading, writing, publishing and teaching of poetry throughout the world.  It also seeks to give fresh recognition and impetus to regional and international poetry movements. UNESCO in 1999, declared the 21st of March as World Poetry Day.

However, the Ministry will hold its’ event on March 27 and has sent invitations to individuals, groups and foreign missions to contribute to the event’s programme. An international flavor to the readings is anticipated even as local poets present their work.

Anyone interested in contributing to the programme is asked to contact Mrs. Gentian Miller on 660-4492.
