Dear Editor,
Another Friday evening – this time of two sundowners, followed not long after by coffee brewed deliberately to restore my mind from an overwhelming sense of fragmentation:
– The sight of groups of adults, children (unarmed) disarmingly protesting against powerlessness and darkness, and the tragic intervention of ‘pelleted’ weapons aimed to fragment lives.
– The discussion amongst politicians rejecting/apportioning blame; and opposition parties further divided over the composition of a commission of enquiry into the circumstances of dying, rather than the prospects of the living.
– Splintered authority: culpability grounded; commandant compromised; and an affair distanced from home.
– But then there is the disaggregation of ‘partnerships’ caused by competition for leadership; the thoughtless (or thoughtful) campaign vituperation allowed by a leader on his cabinet colleague – part of an outdated electoral process now irreconcilable with a new political ‘dispensation’ – culminating in likely schizophrenia and organisational ineffectualness.
– Fragmentations reflected in the spate of domestic violence almost celebrated by print headlines, while simultaneously denounced by concerned individuals and institutions.
– The pretentiousness of conscience in denials to editorials, letters of equivocation, and conditional apologies.
– A split decision rewarding both protagonists in a ‘legal’ battle over truncated budgets.
– The replacement of elected local government organs by IMCs. Is it transition transformation, or a mere state of reduction?
– Meanwhile one cricket IMC stays disconnected from the WICB.
Hopefully next weekend brings on events and people Olympian-worthy of several sundowners.
