Buxton United looking to increase lead in GFF Super League

Current leaders Buxton United will be looking to increase their advantage when they square off with BCC Rosignol United as five more matches will be played this weekend in the GFF Super League.

The match will be played at the Beterverwagting Community Centre ground and will be the first of a double header starting at 13:30 hours.

The second match will see the struggling Alpha United taking on BV/Triumph United at 15:30 hours.

Alpha United one of the pre-tournament favourites has failed to record a win from two matches having drawn their first match and having suffered defeat last weekend.

Uitvlugt Warriors, the gentle giants will host Milerock at the Uitvlugt Community Centre ground at 13:30 hours.

Two matches are carded for GFC ground, with BK Western Tigers coming up against Amelia’s Ward United at 18:00 hours to be followed by Pele against Den Amstel at 20:00 hours.

Last weekend’s matches were action-packed  with BV/Triumph United edging out Milerock of Linden 2-1 at BV ground on the East Coast of Demerara.

Season campaigner  Shawn Daniels opened the scoring for BV with a goal in the 38th minute  and Ron Hopkinson netted his team’s second goal in the  74th minute to give the home team a 2-0 lead.

However,  Beneakaman Smartt pulled one back for the Linden side in the 83rd minute but his effort was in vain.

Buxton United defeated Pele1-0 in another upset victory.

Colwin Barnwell scored the lone goal in the 84th minute with a clinical shot at goal.

Den Amstel Pork Knockers and BK Western Tigers played to an enterprising 2-2 draw. Den Amstel got their goals from Gideon Payne in the 28th Andra Hector in the 41st.

Gavin Wilson scored in the 48th and Leon Yaw in the 88th for the Tigers.

In the second match regarded as the biggest upset to date, game, Uitvlugt Warriors defeating Alpha United by 2- 1.

A defence error in the 38th minute resulted in first goal while Delon Lanferman scored the winning goal in the 79th minute. National striker Anthony “Awo” Abrams had equalized in the 43rd minute for Alpha.

In the lone game at GFC ground, Rosignol United and Amelia’s Ward played to a 2-2 draw. Goal scorers were Carlos Grant in the 41st and Oswald Benjamin in the 58th for Amelia’s Ward. Rosignol United scorers were Olvis Mitchell in the 75th and 89th.

Buxton United lead the points table with six points followed by Western Tigers and BV/Triumph on four points while Amelia’s Ward have two points.

Uitvlugt and Milerock are on three points each while Pele, Den Amstel, Rosignol and Alpha are on one point each all from two matches played.
