An Agricola woman was yesterday remanded to prison when she was brought before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on a charge for possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
The accused, Candace Browne, of Lot 169 Caesar Street, Agricola pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to her by Magistrate Fabayo Azore.
The police report stated that on October 6 around 10 pm police officers on patrol at the Sophia Exhibition Centre allegedly observed the accused collecting money from persons and in return handing over something in a black plastic bag.
The policemen then approached Browne, identifying themselves and carried out a search. Twenty grammes of cannabis was discovered. Police Prosecutor, Ramsahoye Rambujue said that the cannabis was found in the form of leaves, seeds and stems. Browne was informed of the offence and arrested.
Her attorney, Paul Fung-a-Fat told the court that the police may have observed his client collecting money however it was not for the purpose of narcotics. In fact he insisted that the cannabis was found 15 feet away from Browne.
The magistrate refused the application for bail and the accused was remanded. Browne is scheduled to appear in court on October 23.
