The late Winston de Harte made an indelible impression

Dear Editor,

As the world prepares for the World Championships, I am eagerly awaiting the announcement of the participation of Americans, Allyson Felix, Sanya Richards and Carmelita Jeter.

It would be a joy to learn of the confirmation of their participation.

It is also my expectation that Guyana will be represented at the above-mentioned event as long as the selected athlete/s, whether locally or overseas based, qualify. Attending prior regional and some international meets should be a booster for anyone who intends to compete at the 2013 Rio Olympic Games with the expectation of standing on the podium.

Taking a turn around the corner, I have read some recent reports in the dailies about the Athletics Association of Guyana (past and present) and I honestly don’t think that all parties embroiled in this situation realise how much damage this will do to the entire track fraternity. As responsible persons, I sincerely hope they all make an effort to meet in a forum and have the situation sorted out as soon as possible.

Yours faithfully,
T Pemberton

Pensioners to be provided with shelter outside Blairmont Post Office

Dear Editor, As you know, the lack of proper accommodation for our senior citizens who must go to the various post offices every month-end to collect their old age pensions and NIS benefits, etc, has been featured in the media quite a lot recently, especially since a pensioner fainted in the line in which he was standing for many hours in the hot sun at the Blairmont Post Office last month.
