Andrea Foster wins 3000m at Falcon games in Trinidad

Guyana’s Andrea Foster, Stephan James and Ornesto Thomas all secured podium finishes on Saturday at the Falcon games in the twin-island republic of Trinidad and Tobago.

Foster, one of the junior athletes who failed to make the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) CARIFTA Trials qualifying standard, ran a brilliant women’s 3000m winning the event in 10:49.77s ahead of Stacie Taylor of Glasgow School and Donicia Antoine of Toco Titans who finished second and third respectively in 10:54.97s and 11:16.26s.

James, the national junior 400m record holder, placed third in the men’s 200m final after crossing the finish line in 21.27s.

Earlier, James ran 21.60s in the preliminary round (heat 3) where he also placed third. Moriba Morain of Simplex won the race in 21.01s while Jonathan Farinha of Abilene Wildcats was the second place finisher in 21.10s.

Ornesto Thomas booked the final spot on the podium in the boys’ U18 800m final clocking 1:58.81s. Thomas’ coach Anson Ambrose (University of Guyana Track and Field Club) told Stabroek Sport that he was expecting the athlete to achieve the AAG CARIFTA Standard in the event. The CARIFTA Standard the AAG stipulated was 1:54.0s.

Cougars’ Ashton Gill won the race in 1:58.07 seconds while Akeem Marshall of Barbados finished second in 1:58.26 seconds.
