(Jamaica Observer) CLARK’S TOWN, Tre-lawny — The Bottom Town community in Clark’s Town, Trelawny, is trying to come to terms with the fatal stabbing of 13-year-old Holland High student Jevaughnie Gordon, who was allegedly killed by another teen in the community on Friday night.
Reports are that about 7:45 pm an argument developed between Jevaughnie and his neighbour, a 14-year-old boy, while they were at an entertainment spot in the sugar belt community of Clark’s Town.
It is alleged that following the altercation, the 14-year-old left for his home in Bottom Town — a few matres away — and later returned with a knife which he used to stab Jevaughnie in the chest.
The Holland High student reportedly collapsed a few metres from where he was stabbed and was later pronounced dead upon arrival at the Falmouth General Hospital.
Police said last night that the other juvenile, who remained in the police lock-up last night, is expected to be charged with murder later this week.
When the Jamaica Observer visited the depressed Bottom Town area yesterday, residents expressed shock and sadness at the killing.
“It’s hard, very hard. We just can’t understand why something like this had to happen,” said Dawn Dixon, a resident of Bottom Town and a friend of the deceased family.
According to Dixon, the two teens were very good friends. “They lived almost in front of each other and they were very good friends. Up to Christmas Day the one who (allegedly) did the stabbing shared his Christmas dinner with Jevaughnie,” she told the Sunday Observer.
The son of a member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, Jevaughnie graduated from the Clark’s Town Primary School last year and was a seventh grade student at Holland High.
