Photo finish boost for athletics

An efficient method of timing and accurately assessing close finishes  will finally be a reality for track meets in Guyana.

During a simple ceremony at the GOA building yesterday,  Electronic Timing and Photo Finish Equipment were handed over to the Athletic Association of Guyana (AAG) by GOA’s president, K Juman-Yassin.

This bodes well for the future of track and field especially with the impending cutting of the ribbon of the Synthetic Facility at Leonora.

Said president of the athletic association, Aubrey Hutson: “We are really and truly on cloud nine because we have seen another step being taking today.

“We will now have a fully automated time keeper and these equipment will ensure less errors by time keepers.”

Juman-Yassin said that “it is indeed a pleasant day and it is our pleasure to inform you that we have a acquired a photo system that will be utilized successfully in track events.”

The equipment which costs US$15,000 is certified by the governing body the IAAF.
