East Bank landfill fire alters garbage plans

In light of a fire which continues to burn at the Haags Bosch landfill site at Eccles, East Bank Demerara the Mayor and City Councillors (M&CC) of Georgetown is advising residents in Georgetown that the routine cycle of waste collection has been disrupted.

In a press release the Council noted that it is currently working “on a logistical arrangement to have a temporary holding area in Georgetown.”

“The Council is asking residents to be patient and cooperative as a solution is sought to the current issue that has developed as while the council is responsible for the collection and disposal of waste it is not responsible for the management of the landfill site.”

The fire which began at the site on Sunday saw the site being shut down and garbage trucks being redirected to the Lusignan site.
