Jeb Bush or Hilary Clinton in the White House?

Dear Editor,

This is with reference to the recent news report ‘Jeb Bush sheds business ties ahead of 2016 run,’ which prompts us to think whether we are going to have a third Bush in the White House.

Hilary Clinton – First women to occupy the White House?

In the meantime, we learn about Hilary Clinton’s preparation too to get in there where her husband was a two-term president.

Although George Bush also was a two-term president his victory over Al Gore by the narrowest of narrow margins, in 2000, is still spoken about.

The senior Bush, the father of George and Jeb, the former Florida governor, was a single termer being beaten soundly by Bill Clinton in 1992 in his attempt for the second term. Bill was a two-termer and a popular president though he was involved in an unfortunate scandal.

Hilary vs Jeb will be a keen contest, in 2016, since both are leading contenders for nomination in their respective parties, Democrat and Republican. Having served as the Secretary of State, the former first lady has acquired a very good knowledge of world politics while the two-term governor of Florida, Jeb, has an excellent record too in his state. His wife is Mexican and he speaks Spanish very fluently, and this would help him to rally the Latin American votes.

Though he is a Republican he is a liberal compared to George and Bush senior.

So the 2016 presidential election in the US may be a very interesting one, where we could see whether the White House will be occupied by a Bush for the third time or the first woman president in the history of America.

Many Guyanese would prefer a first woman president.

Me? Not for the politics, I would prefer the fairer sex!

Yours faithfully,
