Government should ask EU for visa-free for Guyanese

Dear Editor,

Please permit me to comment on the report, ‘St Lucia welcomes visa free travel to Europe’ in your SN Monday, June 1 edition.

It was noted that the European Union had decided to allow nationals of St Lucia, Dominica, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Grenada, Trinidad and Tobago and two other ACP countries to enjoy visa-free travel to 26 countries of the European Union.

This is a plea to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Guyana Government to respectfully pursue dialogue with the EU to review the agreement that will allow Guyanese nationals to earn visa-free options to those countries.

It is quite difficult at the moment to travel to any of the EU countries unless you can wait 20 working days for a visa before you travel.

Yours faithfully,
Hazel Halley-Burnett
